Music Monday ~ This is Your LIfe

Happy Music Monday!  I wasn't planning on on sharing a song for Music Monday today; I had decided that every two weeks was going to be a perfect fit for me (and I hope for you all as well!)

But...

One line of a song I haven't heard in ages kept playing over in my head this morning - in the shower, as I was sorting the laundry, making breakfast, bike riding with the kids - "This is your life, are you who want to be?"   I have been struggling with the scripture memorization and devotional challenge (another post on that forthcoming), with quiet time in general and being as organized as I want need to be. "This is your life, are you who want to be?"
Hmmmm, okay Lord, I am listening....and then He asks "What are you going to do about it?"

Yesterday is a wrinkle on your forehead
Yesterday is a promise that you’ve broken
Don’t close your eyes, don’t close your eyes
This is your life and today is all you’ve got now
Yeah, and today is all you’ll ever have
Don’t close your eyes
Don’t close your eyes
This is your life, are you who you want to be
This is your life, are you who you want to be
This is your life, is it everything you dreamed that it would be
When the world was younger and you had everything to lose
Yesterday is a kid in the corner
Yesterday is dead and over
This is your life, are you who you want to be
This is your life, are you who you want to be
This is your life, is it everything you dreamed that it would be
When the world was younger and you had everything to lose
Don’t close your eyes
Don’t close your eyes
Don’t close your eyes
Don’t close your eyes
This is your life are you who you want to be
This is your life are you who you want to be
This is your life, are you who you want to be
This is your life, are you who you want to be
This is your life, is it everything you dreamed it would be
When the world was younger and you had everything to lose
And you had everything to lose

Music Monday ~ Give Me Your Eyes

Happy Music Monday!

Thanks for bearing with my erratic Music Monday posting.  With the summer slipping by I never know what I am doing from day to day, and before I know it, it will be time to buckle down and get back on a schedule - ugh!  I am enjoying the lazy days of the season a bit too much I fear!

Today I am sharing yet another my favorite songs.  Give Me Your Eyes, by Brandon Heath, is sure to become a favorite of yours as well, if it isn't already!

Look down from a broken sky
Traced out by the city lights
My world from a mile high
Best seat in the house tonight

Touch down on the cold black top
Hold on for the sudden stop
Breathe in the familiar shock
Of confusion and chaos

All those people going somewhere
Why have I never cared

Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing
Give me your love for humanity
Give me your arms for the broken hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach
Give me you heart for the ones forgotten
Give me your eyes so I can see

Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah

Step out on a busy street
See a girl and our eyes meet
Does her best to smile at me
To hide what’s underneath

There's a man just to her right
Black suit and a bright red tie
Too ashamed to tell his wife
He's out of work, he's buying time

Chorus

I’ve been here a million times
A couple of million eyes
Just move and pass me by
I swear I never thought that I was wrong
I want a second glance
So give me a second chance
To see the way you’ve seen the people all along

Chorus

Summer Devotions ~ Week II

All in all, I am fairly pleased with how my first week went.  I will be making some changes for week two though.  Along with the Proverb I am reading each day this month, I am going to add the correlating commentary from The Bible Knowledge Commentary.  I don’t want to be just ‘reading’ the bible, I want to be learning from it; I want to be transformed (thanks to Romans 12:2)!  I will also add in a daily reading from God Calling, which I just unpacked yesterday and forgot I even owned. {blush}  Here is my scripture choice for memorization:

Show me your ways, O LORD, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.
Psalm 25:4-5

I pray this week is revealing to me and that by next Thursday I am just as encouraged.   I also that pray that you have a blessed week.  God is good!

Memorizing Scriptures

With the start of the Devotional Challenge last week, I found myself drawing a blank when it came to the part that states we are to memorize a new scripture each week.  Hmmm.  Okay.  Which should I use, how do you memorize scriptures, is there a proper way?  I did some research and found a few helpful ideas, but nothing that I wanted to try.  So I devised my own plan to memorize.  First, I picked a picked a color I had not yet used in my bible (pink), and used it to highlight the scripture.  Then, I copied it on an index card and read it through a few times.  The following day I wrote it out vertically on a sheet paper, with one word per line.  I folded the paper so it creased after the first letter of each word, now I could see a reminder letter of each word I needed to recall, which was a huge help for me.  In addition, I practiced typing the scripture on a notepad document whenever I opened up my laptop.
Today brings the first week to a close and I think I have done fairly well, I wish I would have chosen a smaller one, heehee, but am pleased that I have memorized my first scripture – word for word, instead of the paraphrasing that I typically come up with!
Have you been memorizing scriptures for a while?  What method do you use?  How do you decide which verse you focus on?  I would love to hear from you!

Music Monday ~ Everything Glorious

Happy Music Monday!!
I am so happy to be back sharing music with you today.  I am humbled and ever so grateful that you take time out of your busy days to visit my blog, link some music of your own, and leave me some comment love, it is awesome!!!  I always enjoy this song that David Crowder Band sings; Everything Glorious is a light, upbeat song, and leaves me encouraged whenever I hear it, I hope it does the same for you!

The day is brighter here with You
The night is lighter than its hue
Would lead me to believe
Which leads me to believe
(chorus)
You make everything glorious
You make everything glorious
You make everything glorious
And I am yours
What does that make me?
My eyes are small but they have seen
the beauty of enormous things
Which leads me to believe
there's light enough to see that
(chorus)
You make everything glorious
You make everything glorious
You make everything glorious
And I am yours
From glory to glory
You are glorious, You are glorious
From glory to glory
You are glorious, You are glorious
Which leads me to believe
why I can believe
You make everything glorious
You make everything glorious
You make everything glorious
And I am yours
You make everything glorious
You make everything glorious
You make everything glorious
And I am yours
From glory to glory, from glory to glory
You are glorious. You are glorious.
You are glorious. You are glorious.

Summer Devotions

I am participating in a devotional challenge that is being shared on The Homeschool Lounge.  It is just what I need to get my focus where it needs to be, on the Lord!  I have committed to spending at least fifteen minutes a day, for the months of July and August, in devotions with God and to memorize one scripture a week.  Let me share with you what I am planning.  :)
  • My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers – one devotion daily, starting in the middle of the book on July 1st
  • Blue Like Play Dough by Tricia Goyer – one chapter a day, this will take me until July 23 and then I will choose another encouraging book
  • Proverbs – one each day, for the month of July
  • My scripture for the week:
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Romans 12:2

Slow and steady, that is my new mantra!  I had pondered reading through the New Testament in thirty days (and those who have been reading my blog for a while may recall how my last ‘read through the bible’ stint went!  lol) but instead chose a few small things all revolving around quiet time with the Lord.  I know my weakness weaknesses and not seeing my brilliant plans to fruition is one of the many!  Come back next week for an update on my progress, or better yet, join me in the challenge!
