Speaking of comments, I am hoping you will indulge my curiosity with a response. I am wondering how many of you actually revisit posts that you have commented on. Do you actually go back to see if the blog author has commented or responded to you? When I first discovered the blogging world, I rarely commented on peoples posts so I would easily remember when I had left a question and where I needed to go back to look for a response. That was a long time ago, or so it seems, and now I find myself commenting all over the place, often forgetting to go back to look for a response (pie baking anyone?!!?) Enter email! I love having email notification enabled, I get an email every time someone leaves me a comment, and I can easily type a response to them, if they have simply checked 'show my email address' on their blogger profile.
So, what is your preference? Is your profile enabled to show your email address? Do you revisit the comment section of old posts?
My inquiring mind would like to know!

Yep I go back, well not really. I pretty much always hit the email option that is available, so I always get a email if they are follow up comments after I make my comment. I via email will read follow up comments and if I feel the need to comment again I'll come back. So I'll check mark yes to emails before submitting my reply. :)
I moderate comments on my own blog. So all the comments on my blog have to be approved before they appear. I have email notification set up for that. So I always get an email when there are new comments on my blog for me to approve or reject. When I'm on other peoples blog like yours now, that's when I hit subscribe to comments before replying. It's those I'll read and sometimes go back if needed. So I can see if the blog owner reply via comments on their blog. :)
Well, if you're talkinga about me leaving a message somewhere other than my blog, I don't check the box for follow-up comments because then I'm getting everyones comments, at least that was my first experience.
As for my own blog, I try I really do to respond to peoples comments because I think it's considerate, but I don't always remember to go back and do it and then I feel terrible!!!
I think if my family and friends actually followed my blog, I'd write more family stuff. Since they don't, I don't. Right now my main committment is to the publishers & authors who send me their books. For that, I'm happy to blog away. :)
Blessings,
Mimi
PS thanks for visiting my blog Woven by Words. Now I'm off to check out your posting of Sidewalk Prophet's song. :)
I rarely recheck a comment section, although occasionaly I will check the 'notify me of follow up comments' if that is offered.
AS for my own blog - I used to get a lot of comments, but my near by friends have all 'defected' to Facebook. I literally went from 10close blogging friends to 1 - only one local friend continues to blog more than a two month "I am still alive" post. I miss it, to be honest. I felt that I knew my friends better as I could see their day and pray for their plans. Oh well. I am now making new blog friends - even if they are in Canada, eeerrr - Utah? :-)

@ Jen, my friend, you make me laugh!! Now to just get you to add your email to blogger so I can stop going to THL to respond to you!! ROFL
@ Mimi, I do hope you you make it back here to read my reply to you..I so wanted to email...I appreciate the comments you left for me last night, I am also one of those bloggers without family followers, a couple RL friends, but they are not consistent readers, I so enjoy my virtual relationships!! I hope to have you visit again on Monday for my meme, I will be sharing the song you mentioned. :)
Hi Shawntele,
Well to give my 2 cents to your questions:
I started my blog on a whim and continue to do it for the sheer enjoyment of it and also see it as a means to share my faith with like-minded bloggers.
I try to check back for comments on blogs I've commented on but not always. I sometimes check the notify me of follow up box as well. My own blog comments are moderated and need my approval before being published.
Good luck with your re-design. I love visiting your blog and joining in your Music Monday meme.
God Bless!
It depends on the blog posts. If there's a conversation or recipe exchange that I'm interested in, I'll click the follow option if it's available. Sometimes, though, on more popular blogs, especially when they're running contests, the follow option simply produces too many messages.
In general, if I care enough to comment, I care enough to read follow ups. I really enjoy reading about and getting to know others, even when we will likely never meet in person.
First let me say I LOVED this line you shared on your last post: "I would much rather have five followers be a part of my life than five hundred strangers faces staring back at me from my blog." Touching and personalized! I like it!!
Now, on to your question. When I leave a comment on a blog, I do not return to see if someone has commented back to me. I used to but now it would take too much time and organization.
Instead, my e-mail is set up to be a part of my comment for them. I guess I hope if they respond to me it would be through that venue. :-)
Good dialogue going here!
If my comment is long and detailed or if it has a pressing question, I will check back once or twice, later the same day or the next day. After that I move on to other things.
I often will post a "reply comment" on my blog to a reader and then email them and send them the comment. This is just a courtesy to them, so that they don't have to return to my blog but they do have my response. People appreciate this very much.
No, I usually don't go back looking to see if someone has commented on my comment. I'm like you... I comment all over the place. It would just be too hard to keep up.
On my own blog I have it set to email me when someone comments. I don't respond to every comment, but when I want to, I usually just reply to the email. (I know I've done it with you before... but I think sometimes people have their settings such that you can't do that.)
I do try to "return the favor" to those who comment on my blog by visiting their blog and leaving them a comment. It is usually a few days later, though.
Interacting with other bloggers is the fun part of blogging! Making new friends, connecting with kindred spirits...
I agree 100% with the e-mail. I never go back to see responses ... it is just too time-consuming and getting e-mailed all the follow-up comments to a post generates too much e-mail so I like when people respond via e-mail and I like to write people back in response to their comment via e-mail as well. But so many people don't have e-mail in their profiles and I wish they would! Great point!
for me- i moderate comments so i always know what's going on and to stop spam.
i try to return the favor too and comment when someone comments on mine.
I enable the email for updated comments...for me, the interaction with BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE LIKE YOU SHAWNTELE...is what makes blogging so wonderful! I blog simply because I found that my heart was bursting to share the joy and blessings that God has given me along the way in the beautiful journey of ours! Our website: http://www.thebestofhomeschoolfaithandfamilylife.com/
has been something altogether different that we were led to do and is connected with some of our blogging interaction but I would still blog even if we didn't own a website!
Personally, I do have an email link in my profile...haven't had any trouble with that since it is kept secure!
Hope you have fun re-designing your blog...and whatever you come up with...IT WILL BE A BLESSING...I LOVE visiting your blog!
YIKES!!!! I had to come back and say:
It is second nature (in a "business way") to add my url whenever I type the words "our website"...just something I've trained myself to do...PLEASE do not think that my adding that link was meant to be SPAM of ANY SORT...I almost died when I realized (later this morning) what I had done there, in the VERY POST where you were writing about blogging for the pure JOY of it. FORGIVE ME !
I'm really not any more ambitious that any other homeschool mom... we do our "adventures" instead of the workbooks and 7 subject school day, which in my opinion is just as ambitious if not more when you multiply it by the number of kids you have and the different stages they are at! My kids are young enough to enjoy this kind of stuff so I'm soaking it in and maximizing my opportunities to explore and utilize it.
and thanks for your comments. they brighten my day :)
A great song with a great message. See you for Music Monday. Doylene
